A lighting workshop to benefit Jayme Montoya of Lucid Design and Photo

A dear friend and colleague, Jayme Montoya, has had to undergo two open heart surgeries in the span of two months to help correct a congenital heart defect. In our mission to help alleviate some of the unnecessary burden, Gretchen Nishitani, Craig Lamere and Tiffany Hix have put together this lighting workshop. Our goal is to teach some natural and studio lighting techniques while raising money for our friend.

The Light Up Her Heart Lighting Workshop will be held on Saturday, March 3rd from 4-10 pm in Meridian, ID. We are still compiling the list of the lighting styles that will be taught. There will be multiple shooting bays with backdrops provided by Tara Pugmire . Please check back as we will be updating as the curriculum is finalized.

Registration for the Light Up Her Heart Lighting Workshop is $100 and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Jayme.

October brings a lot of birthdays. Morgan turned 13 which is a tough reality. It is fun to see your daughters grow up, but also very scary! Morgan of course loved getting her pictures taken. The fun part was the shopping and getting ready. Morgan is truly an amazing young lady. She is smart, talented, and kind. This year was the start of a very busy schedule. She played volleyball, basketball, and is still clogging. I am proud of her and love her tons!

Laynie Turns 8 {mommy as the photographer}

Laynie did technically turn 8 in October, but I have been a bit too busy to get all of these photos done. Now that they are done I have no idea what one I am going to print. I had planned on just one for the wall, but now I may have to do more. She was super excited to go take pictures and wanted to strike her own poses. Fun to see her work the camera. Love this little miss so full of life and spunk. She does everything with a passion and intensity from happy to mad to excited and everything in-between! She may have just a bit of her mother in her. I love that I was able to capture this age in her life still so young and innocent.

up until this point Layine was having a great time, but after about 1/2 hour she quickly fizzled. I caught one of those moments in-between and had to include it. This is what I mean about her passion, and it always shows on her face!

As quick as it was there, it was gone again! Ahhh my little laynie-bug!

Yup this is my darling niece! So I guess I got the chance to talk about her a bit so I'm gonna do it! This is one amazing young lady. Their is a lot to say about her many talents. For starters she is an amazing fiddle player! She has been playing since she was little and has branched into classical violin as well. She has an amazing voice, she sings in choir. She is also an up and coming photographer. She has really worked on this skill and has quite the creative eye. This weekend we were doing yard clean up at the grandparents home and she just worked, and worked. No one ever has to ask her to help out, she is just always the first one there cleaning up and taking care of things. A very mature quality for a teen! I love ya Emilee! Can you have any more fun when you are photographing your BFF's family and her 6 kids? So fall is unpredictable, but beautiful. You never know what kind of day your are going to get. After one cancelled day we were going out on X morning frost, freezing, cold.... not going to stop us! Thankfully Mark is always handy when it come to outdoors and brought along a handy gas heater! Best freezing morning ever! No crying, just kids complaining that they were too hot! Guess the hot chocolate helped too! Just a great laid back morning, only thing we forgot were the marshmellows! I soooo love it when BFF's from High School come into town! Layne is a BFFof mine from way back when we were still riding our schwinn bikes to and from each others houses, and giggling about boys! Now when we get together and are chasing kids! Oh my how times change. I loved shooting her family, it was hot, and their was a lot of chasing and wrestling, but it was worth it! We both have exactly the opposite in sexes in children so chasing a bunch of boys was a nice change of pace to the screaming and squealing of girls. Beautiful family..... I love it when I get them so young and fresh. This little guy was just about a week old. Newborn photographs are best in the first two weeks. You wait any longer than that and most babies do not like being folded and tucked up. This little guy was a trooper, but he let me know when I was bugging him. I just love the babies! Way too fun when you get to take pictures of friends who go back to the dawn of time! We have known the Smith family before they even had any kids! Mike and Natalie were the first couple in the group of friends to have a baby, and Ashlynn was beloved by us all. Then the rest of us had a bunch of kids and babies were nothing special. Taiwan Rocks!

My brother and sis-in-law recently flew my daughter Laynie and I to come see them. We were there for Kennedy's baptism, but got to do many other amazing things while there! Nathan and Erin are amazing at living in the huge, busy, crazy, foreign, city of Taipei. Watching them do their thing was very cool! They live on a very steep, beautiful hill. All around them is jungle...beautiful, lush, green. We had to squeeze in a photo shoot, and by squeeze I mean squeeze. EJ... why did we wait until the night before we left to do this? Taiwan is on the equator so the sun goes down early and very fast, much faster than I am used to. We had to bust a move to get these shots in. They were taken in front of their house on their road, and on one of their many balconies at their home. Dang for the low light that forced me to shoot wide open and completely blur the background, would have been nice to get a closer look at their backyard. Don't they look amazing though? More pictures of the adventure in Taiwan to come.....

Am I the only one who feels like my babies grow up way to fast? That the wonderful newborn stage is gone in a blink of an eye? I look back on London's last year of life and I almost can't even remember her being a baby at all! I just wish it lasted longer, but one year olds are so much fun! I love London's personality she is so sweet, we just love her to pieces. I think she is just to die for!

I don't know that I can find the words to describe my time with the Lange family. Stephanie is a dear friend of mine and I have known her since she was much younger! Age usually matures people, but it is good to know that no matter how old you get on the outside you can still be young on the inside. For her family photos this year she wanted to show a refined, sophisticated, formal side of her family. These first photos reflect her vision nicely.

I really have not seen two people more in love than these two. They could not keep their hands off each other! I love to see it though!

Lets get real though just how long do you think a family full of personality, humor, and pure spunk can hold out? Not that long really. Every family shot has something silly happening in between snaps of the camera. Usually it is the kids who cause the most trouble, but Steph was the worst! I caught so much of it I found myself cracking up when I was editing their pictures, over and over again! Here are some of my favorites. Totally love the kung-fu moment!

Ludwig family was way over due for a family picture. Seven years since their last one. Really I do get it though, it's not like a family photo session is the thing families look forward to the most. Their kids are mostly grown up now and I did not even have to break out my puppets. Wonderful kids, wonderful parents. Almost did not get this session at all on Saturday with the crazy weather, but the sun came out and stayed out for their session, glad it did the colors are amazing! Dad Ludwid is Dr. Ludwig at Pioneer Family Medicine and I just love that place!

Addies 1 year pictures! We added some of the family as well. It was not long ago that I was doing Ivy's 1 year pictures. Oh my how time flies. Addie was a trooper, how much can you really expect from a 13 month old? She did hang in there through three outfit changes. I had to include the one of the meltdown in her darling skirt, I still think it is cute! Enjoy your pictures, and yeah this is super fast but got to keep up on the editing. Does not get better than being able to photograph your best friend and her whole crew! I walked away from this evening wondering how can her six....yes six kids be so much easier to handle than my own five? Really they were so good for me. We got shot after shot of the whole family. Way too many put put them all on here. I guess it makes up for the last two years when Hailey just cried the whole time! Donna you did an amazing job putting together all the outfits! Pugmire family pictures 2010. Never fun to do your own family pictures. Pictures for other families seem to go so smooth, but my own are always a nightmare! Maybe it's because my own kids are used to my threats and it does not snap them into action. A big shout out to my baby sister who patiently endured the whole evening putting all her energy into getting all our attention. By the end of the night she was wiped out and for good reason.
